DO YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY

After managing 3 days off from hospital works, I had gone on duty just last night. I was really touched by one of my patients. I received her with chief complaints of abdominal pain, very irritable and kept on shouting and her pain was not relieved by and medicines at all. The doctor ordered several test but due to lack of financial support and she have no significant others to attend to, her laboratory exams were pending.

Around 9:30 pm the patient was still shouting and other patients were complaining of her noise. She then asked our help to defecate. So we gave her a bedside commode and after a while she was relieved. When she finally got rid of her dirt, we helped her back to bed. After a few minutes, I saw her having cold clammy extremities, unconscious, BP-0, Cardiac Rate -0.

I then called her doctor and informed her of the patient's present condition. While waiting for the doctor to arrive, we already hooked to Bag-Valve mask and give her CPR, still no response from the patient. So I gave her 1 amp of epinephrine just in case she will be revived.

When the doctor came in, and saw her condition, she intubated her..Sad thing was that, my nursing attendant was the one doing the ambu bagging thing, because the patient have no relatives at all.

After several hours of taking shifts of ambu bagging for the patient, her boyfriend cam in and was shocked by her condition. But unfortunately she died just this morning.

I was really moved by this patient, as far as I can remember I was the one who admitted her from the Emergency Room. A few days ago, when this patient could still talk, she told us that her father died many years ago. And as a result, her mother married another man. But unluckily, her stepdad, raped her many times. Take note this patient of  mine is age 21 only. So she stayed with her aunt for several months. When she began to feel sickly, her aunt abandoned her, telling her that she is useless (how crude). Can you imangine, her life in the past? I really took pity on her. May her soul rest in peace.
